There were two sculptors who couldn't find a house to live in with a three car garage to work in so they bought what had once been the largest American Legion post in America as a place to sculpt marble, paint and pursue their many artistic interests.
Now...
This building is being opened up to other visual artists. 12,000 square feet of in the center of historic Germantown are becoming working spaces for artists including a ground floor that was a theater with a 42' peak, all open space and light with an entire floor below it that is also open with 9' ceilings and huge window wells. Spaces for exhibitions, multi media and photography and areas to work outdoors are just some of the many advantages this studio building offers.
Where
In tree lined Germantown, blocks from three train stations, half a block from the 23 bus on Germantown Avenue, twenty minutes to center city by car. Great neighborhood with 24/7 access and a resident owner.
Ground floor
More than 3500 sf of open space 54' wide and 60 odd feet long with a 42 foot peak. Eight huge windows let in the day. Overhead lights keep the nights bright. Maple floors under it all.
Marble working studio on the stage
WORKING STONE
Compressors, a gurney, 11 tons of marble... what more could a marble sculptor like myself want? Company of course. I would like to share my marble working studio with other marble carvers. Some of the stone is for sale.
Lower level
CERAMICS and GLASS... or... 5,800 square feet of concrete ceilings and floors with stucco walls and huge window wells. The ceilings are 9' high, floor drains make it perfect for anything requiring water. Studios will be anywhere from 150 square feet to thousands.
PHOTOGRAPHY On this floor there is one completely separate room about 20'x 39' that I will become a multi media room and photography studio. No windows mean complete control over the light, 12' ceilings mean nothing to interfere with the shot.
The attic peak
One very special room, up under the peak of the theater there is a 12' x 35' room with it's own entrance. Eighteen feet up there are two huge wooden trusses, right in the middle of the room. A skylight is going in at the peak, a great space to work in.
